BogeyBuds ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the BogeyBuds mobile application ("the App").
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- First and last name
- Password (stored securely using industry-standard hashing)
Profile Information
You may optionally provide:
- Golf handicap and skill level
- Home course
- Bio/description
- Profile photo
- City, state, and zip code
Location Data
With your permission, we collect your device's location to:
- Show nearby golfers in the Discover feature
- Display golf courses, driving ranges, and pro shops on the map
- Provide weather forecasts for course locations
You can disable location access at any time through your device settings.
User-Generated Content
We store content you create within the App, including:
- Clubhouse feed posts and photos
- Comments and reactions
- Direct messages and group chat messages
- Scorecard data (scores, putts, fairway hits)
- Tee time invitations
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and operate the App's features
- Enable communication between golfers via messaging
- Display your profile to other users for social discovery
- Track and share golf scores and round history
- Show relevant weather forecasts for golf courses
- Facilitate tee time scheduling between players
- Improve the App's functionality and user experience
3. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
- Open-Meteo — We send latitude and longitude coordinates (of golf course locations, not your personal location) to retrieve weather forecast data. Open-Meteo is a free, open-source weather API. No personal user data is shared.
- MyMemory Translation API — Used for translating post content. Only the text of the post is sent for translation; no personal data is included.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers using industry-standard encryption and security practices:
- Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text
- Authentication uses secure token-based sessions
- Database connections are encrypted
- We use HTTPS for all data transmission
5. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data stored in the App
- Update your profile information at any time
- Delete your posts and content
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent for location data collection via device settings
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
